Volunteer at the Buddy Walk!

Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we volunteer for the 17th Annual Rocket City Buddy Walk on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 12PM to 4PM at The Rock Church. The Buddy Walk promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. All funds raised at the walk are used in supporting and educating families about Down syndrome.

Meet at near the water tower with your bag chair and chosen food and drink - we'll snag some spots and enjoy the tunes.

Concert starts at 6 - Lowe Mill is BYOB, but has amazing food for purchase if you forget to pack a snack. Pets on a leash are also encouraged!

This is a FREE event, however to park at Lowe Mill, parking is $5, so bring cash!

Sierra Club Day Hike

Join HYP as we hike through the Sipsey Wilderness to the famed Big Tree, the largest yellow poplar in the state of Alabama! This hike will be led by expert hikers and adventurers from the North Alabama Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Sipsey Wilderness area is located in the Bankhead National Forest. This land is well known for it's waterfalls, creeks, limestone bluffs, and untouched forests. It has some of the most beautiful trails in North Alabama.

We will hike close to 10 miles, so be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch. BRING PLENTY OF WATER! There is not much elevation change, but it is 10 miles and you will be crossing several downed trees.

There is no cell reception in Bankhead National Forest, so plan accordingly. Please stay with the group.

You must be at least 18 years of to participate in HYP hikes. No dogs.

Join Huntsville Young Professionals at High Point Climbing and Fitness Huntsville on September 17th at 5:30pm for some climbing and bouldering fun.

All-day climbing and gear rental passes will be discounted to $19. There will also be High Point employees available for belaying those interested in trying routes outside of the auto-belays. There is also Yoga on Tuesdays at 7:00 (limited class size first come first serve.)

If you haven’t been to High Point Huntsville before you will need to complete a waiver, even if you don’t plan on climbing. Waivers can be filled out online in advance at the link below or on an iPad at the gym.

HYP Trail Care Day with the Land Trust!

Let's celebrate the start of fall (or at least "fall-ish" weather 🤞) and doing MORE outside activities like hiking with a Trail Clean-Up! The Land Trust of North Alabama maintains over 71 miles of the lovely trails in the Madison County and they need our help September 7th!

HYP is excited to work with the Land Trust of North Alabama to restore parts of the Bluff Line Trail on Monte Sano. You will definitely work up a sweat raking, pruning and digging! This is more than litter clean-up - this is more like amplified yard maintenance in the woods!

Please wear study, long pants (jeans), boots or athletic shoes and be sure to bring water and snacks.

Those buried in Glenwood Cemetery have a history unlike any other in our city. An African American Cemetery founded by the City of Huntsville in 1870, Glenwood Cemetery is Huntsville’s oldest surviving African-American burial ground.

Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we partner up with City of Huntsville's Operation Green Team to clean headstones at the historic Glenwood Cemetery. We will be volunteering between 8AM and 11AM on Saturday, August 31st. All supplies provided.

Summer is here. What better way to enjoy it than a leisurely ride along Aldridge creek?

This is a bring your own bike event. Rental bikes will not be provided. Riding pace will be slow, so any type of bike is ok.
Difficulty: Very Easy

Meet at the Publix on Mountain Gap/Baily Cove road at 4pm.
This will be a very easy ride from Publix to Ditto Landing along the Aldridge Creek Greenway. This trail is paved asphalt and is mostly flat. We will take a drink/snack break at Ditto Landing, then return on the same trail.

Be sure to bring your own water and sunscreen. All participants must be 18 or older and sign a waiver.

HYP's Annual Canoe and Kayak Trip

It's finally summer! Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we paddle down Flint River in canoes and kayaks.

We will meet at North Alabama Canoe & Kayak - NACK, approximately 15 minutes outside of Huntsville, on Saturday, June 15th, at 7:45 AM.

Price per person is the following (Cash Only!):
- $45/person for single-person kayak
- $35/person for two-person canoe
and includes canoe/ kayak rental, paddle, personal flotation device, and transportation to and from the drop-off and pick-up points.

If you have your own gear, there is a $25 transportation fee for drop-off/ pick-up.

This will be a 4.5+ hour trip down the free-flowing waterway with breaks for snacks and lunch. This will be an easy paddle, so do not worry about your experience level. Just plan on having a good time!

What to bring:
- Lunch and other snacks
- Cooler (or plan to share a cooler with others)
- Beverage of choice (bring water!)
- Dry-box or ziploc bags for non-waterproof items
- Towel
- Bathing suit
- Sunglasses, hat, etc.
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray

Additional considerations:
-If you carpool, stay with your carpool buddy during kayaking!
-You may want a change of clothes if you plan to jump in the water.

Join HYP as we volunteer in our community on Saturday, June 8th from 11:15 AM - 12:45 PM at the Downtown Rescue Mission!

The Downtown Rescue Mission helps change lives by breaking the cycles of addiction, homelessness and poverty through providing food, shelter, and recovery and training programs. The mission serves men, women, and children in the Huntsville area. Last year, the mission provided over 271,000 meals to those in need!

Join us as we serve lunch from 11:15 AM - 12:45 PM. The Mission will provide disposable aprons, gloves, and hairnets. If able, please stick around afterwards to help with clean-up.

We will be serving at the Main Facility, please enter through entrance #2. We look forward to seeing you there!

Volunteer at the Chinese Lantern Festival

Join HYP as we volunteer for the Chinese Lantern Festival at the beautiful Huntsville Botanical Gardens. This will be the garden's biggest festival yet, featuring more than 1,000 lantern displays of wildlife from around the world. Don't miss your chance to see this one of a kind event and support the gardens!

We will be volunteering Sunday, May 19th, from 4:45 PM until 8:45 PM. This is the last day of the festival before it leaves the gardens. You won't want to miss it! After your volunteer shift, we will go on a guided tour of the exhibit on its final night in Huntsville.

Meet at the Dublin Park tennis courts in Madison - we'll be learning from our local tennis pro Michael Dublin. Michael is the former tennis pro at Walt Disney World Resorts and University of Central Florida Head Coach. He currently teaches lessons in Huntsville, Madison, and Athens.

This is a ~FREE~ tennis lesson - materials are provided by Michael, but if you have a racquet, feel free to bring it!
