Summer is here. What better way to enjoy it than a leisurely ride along Aldridge creek?

This is a bring your own bike event. Rental bikes will not be provided. Riding pace will be slow, so any type of bike is ok.
Difficulty: Very Easy

Meet at the Publix on Mountain Gap/Baily Cove road at 4pm.
This will be a very easy ride from Publix to Ditto Landing along the Aldridge Creek Greenway. This trail is paved asphalt and is mostly flat. We will take a drink/snack break at Ditto Landing, then return on the same trail.

Be sure to bring your own water and sunscreen. All participants must be 18 or older and sign a waiver.

HYP will be hosting #SportsSundays throughout the summer to provide an opportunity for young professionals to meet new people and engage in some active fun.

HYP's Annual Canoe and Kayak Trip

It's finally summer! Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we paddle down Flint River in canoes and kayaks.

We will meet at North Alabama Canoe & Kayak - NACK, approximately 15 minutes outside of Huntsville, on Saturday, June 15th, at 7:45 AM.

Price per person is the following (Cash Only!):
- $45/person for single-person kayak
- $35/person for two-person canoe
and includes canoe/ kayak rental, paddle, personal flotation device, and transportation to and from the drop-off and pick-up points.

If you have your own gear, there is a $25 transportation fee for drop-off/ pick-up.

This will be a 4.5+ hour trip down the free-flowing waterway with breaks for snacks and lunch. This will be an easy paddle, so do not worry about your experience level. Just plan on having a good time!

What to bring:
- Lunch and other snacks
- Cooler (or plan to share a cooler with others)
- Beverage of choice (bring water!)
- Dry-box or ziploc bags for non-waterproof items
- Towel
- Bathing suit
- Sunglasses, hat, etc.
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray

Additional considerations:
-If you carpool, stay with your carpool buddy during kayaking!
-You may want a change of clothes if you plan to jump in the water.

Join HYP as we volunteer in our community on Saturday, June 8th from 11:15 AM - 12:45 PM at the Downtown Rescue Mission!

The Downtown Rescue Mission helps change lives by breaking the cycles of addiction, homelessness and poverty through providing food, shelter, and recovery and training programs. The mission serves men, women, and children in the Huntsville area. Last year, the mission provided over 271,000 meals to those in need!

Join us as we serve lunch from 11:15 AM - 12:45 PM. The Mission will provide disposable aprons, gloves, and hairnets. If able, please stick around afterwards to help with clean-up.

We will be serving at the Main Facility, please enter through entrance #2. We look forward to seeing you there!

Volunteer at the Chinese Lantern Festival

Join HYP as we volunteer for the Chinese Lantern Festival at the beautiful Huntsville Botanical Gardens. This will be the garden's biggest festival yet, featuring more than 1,000 lantern displays of wildlife from around the world. Don't miss your chance to see this one of a kind event and support the gardens!

We will be volunteering Sunday, May 19th, from 4:45 PM until 8:45 PM. This is the last day of the festival before it leaves the gardens. You won't want to miss it! After your volunteer shift, we will go on a guided tour of the exhibit on its final night in Huntsville.

It's gonna be May*, and with May comes references to Justin Timerberlake and outside activities like hiking on the local trails. The Land Trust of North Alabama maintains over 71 miles of those trails.

On Saturday, May 4th beginning at 8 AM HYP is volunteering with the Land Trust of North Alabama to help restore parts of the Bluff Line Trail on Monte Sano. Although there will be limited hiking and climbs, you work up a sweat raking, pruning and digging! This is more than litter clean-up! This is more like amplified yard maintenance in the woods!

Please wear study, long pants (jeans), boots or athletic shoes and be sure to bring water and snacks.

HYP Hikes the Walls of Jericho

Join us for a day trip to hike the Walls Of Jericho trail near the Alabama-Tennessee state line. We will meet at the Books-A-Million parking lot near Memorial Parkway. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are near-by. This is an 18+ event. You will be required to sign a waiver!

THIS IS A STRENUOUS HIKE with over 1000 ft of elevation descent on the way in and climb on the way out. We will start at the Alabama Trailhead and hike down to the Walls of Jericho, a natural amphitheater formed from water erosion of limestone, take a break in the basin for lunch, and hike back out for a total round trip of about 7 miles. -----> THIS IS A STRENUOUS HIKE. <------

You are responsible for your safety needs, food, water, personal belongings, etc.

What to bring:
- Comfortable shoes, preferably hiking shoes or boots - The trail is often muddy.

- A sense of adventure!

Meet at 8:00 am in the Books-A-Million Parking lot to carpool/convoy (1001-7 Memorial Pkwy NW, Huntsville, AL 35801). The drive to the trailhead is just over an hour.

By joining the Huntsville Young Professionals' board of directors, you can do just that! 

Huntsville Young Professionals promotes an environment that attracts and retains young professionals in Huntsville/Madison County, Alabama. Our efforts focus on connecting people to each other and to the community through social, civic, recreational, professional development and charitable opportunities.

We are looking for young adults who want to make a difference with their free time by engaging the community through planning and executing events. HYP holds three to five events every month that require dedication from committed and passionate board members. As an HYP Board of Director, you will be responsible for planning and executing a variety of events!

Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we participate in the annual Huntsville St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 16th. The parade route is a bit over 1.5 miles long. Staging for the parade will begin at 10:00 AM with all staging complete by 10:30 AM. The parade starts at 11:30. Please arrive at "Lot K" between Holmes Ave and Clinton Ave by 10:00 AM.

Cost to participate with us is only $15 and includes a special 2019 HYP St. Patrick's Day Parade shirt, plenty of items to pass along to spectators, and a $10 Yellowhammer gift card (limited supply). After the parade, we will meet up at Yellowhammer Brewing!

You must confirm your attendance by Thursday, March 6th so that shirts can be ordered in time!

Make-A-Wish On Rainbow Mountain: A Fundraiser Hike

Join HYP as we hike for a cause by raising money to donate to the Make-A-Wish foundation of Alabama! 

This will be a short hike at beautiful Rainbow Mountain in the heart of Madison. We are raising funds and awareness for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Alabama. The Make-A-Wish foundation makes life changing wishes come true for kids with critical illnesses. 

HYP is suggesting a small donation to enjoy the hike with us. Donations are not required, but highly encouraged. 100% of all money donated will go the Alabama Chapter of the Make-A-Wish foundation (i.e. HYP will not be subtracting event costs or processing fees from the donation). We will collect cash at the event or you can make your donation using the link below. You can help make a wish come true local kids and their families who are battling illness! 

So come out, get some exercise, enjoy some fresh air, meet new people, and help change the life of some special kids! The Rainbow Mountain loop trail is relatively easy hike about 1.5 miles long. There is some elevation change and uneven footing in parts.

As for all HYP hikes, dress appropriately, bring water, and be ready to enjoy the outdoors! You must be 18+ years of age and sign a waiver.

HYP Does Hot Pilates

Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we get our sweat on (LITERALLY) with Hot Yoga Worx (formally Bikram Hot Yoga Huntsville). HYP will be participating in a Hot Pilates class – a 60-minute full body workout that combines Pilates principles with a low impact work out that’s sure to get your blood (and sweat) flowing! Class begins at 6:15pm sharp, so please make sure to arrive a few minute early to sign a waiver and get settled in the workout studio.

This class is FREE to attend! Please make sure you properly hydrate the day of the workout as it is a high intensity workout performed in a room heated to 95 degrees Fahrenheit/40% humidity. See you there!

Guided Tour of Cathedral Caverns with HYP

Join HYP for a guided tour of the majestic Cathedral Caverns! This tour is about 1.5 miles round trip and takes about 90 minutes. The entire route is paved and easy to walk. Hiking shoes/boots are recommended due to slippery terrain.

The cost is $19 per person. Cash or card is accepted and the fee is paid at the cave entrance.

We will meet at Books-a-Million at 12:30PM to organize carpools - leaving at 12:45PM sharp. The ride there is about 40 minutes and the tour starts at 2:00PM.

Back by popular demand! Join Huntsville Young Professionals as we play Huntsville GOkickball this spring season!

Thanks to a partnership with Huntsville GOkickball, you can receive a $10 discount code when you sign up to play with HYP ***only works if on an HYP team***

Games will be Thursday evenings beginning on Thursday, March 14th. There will be seven games and a playoff. Each team will play one game per night with the earliest game beginning at 6:30 PM and the latest game beginning at 9:00 PM. Games will be played at the Kiwanis Club fields at the corner of Bob Wallace Ave and Patton Rd.

How this will work:

1. Fill out the interest survey: https://goo.gl/forms/NDRbzm8K5u9Nglw33. *You are not officially on a team until you sign up and pay through GOkickball*

2. Once you've submitted the interest survey, you will be sent the information for the discount code (within 24-48 hours), the team name, and the team invitation to join.

3. Visit gokickball.com/huntsville/ to officially register. Registration is $60.95 (including processing fee) with a $10 discount bringing the cost to $50.95. *** must fill out the interest survey linked above for team and discount codes ***

4. After registering with GO Kickball, HYP will be notified. Once the HYP registration closes on March 1st, the HYP team captains will split participants into teams. We expect to have multiple teams.

5. You will be notified of your team, your team color, and team captain via email.

6. You'll be invited to join a secret, closed Facebook group. We will use the Facebook group and email to notify team members of games, optional practices, and other things.

Games begin March 14th. There will be 7 games and playoffs. As it is spring, there may be weather delays. If this occurs, the game will be rescheduled.

Huntsville GOkickball is looking for reliable, energetic, fair refs for summer season games on Wednesday and/or Thursday nights. Must be able to be at the fields from 6:15-9:30. Come tour Lowe Mill with HYP! Join us for a guided tour of Lowe Mill where we will learn about its history and current events - and get introduced to the artists while touring their studios! After the tour, feel free to stroll around and shop. Make sure to take time to visit Piper and Leaf or Pizzelle's for a delicious treat!
